Betty Memorial Institute

Varney Freeman is a Liberian pastor who, with his wife Queeta, founded the Betty Memorial Institute (BMI). BMI is an elementary through high school in Grand Cape Mount County Liberia, near the border of Sierra Leone in West Africa. Almost all the students at BMI are from a Muslim background, many of them being the first in their family to attend school.
There are 82 students currently enrolled in BMI between the ages of 5 to 12, most of whom live on campus. The students experience love and respect and are taught to share that love and respect with each other. God is the provider for all their needs; they learn to live a life of gratefulness and appreciation in any situation, whether in scarcity or abundance. They understand that God has a plan for their lives. Pastor Varrney states, "We believe the children need more attention with the gospel and the gospel is more effective at a young age. We encourage our Christian brothers and sisters to partner with us in educating these children and accept the love of God."
Through the Betty Memorial Institute Student Sponsorship program a student may be sponsored for $300 per year, or $25 per month. This funding provides housing on the BMI campus, meals three times a day, medical care, uniform, books, and education. More importantly, is the opportunity to personally impact the life of a student for Christ through ongoing communication and meaningful relationships.
